 Instrumentation - Maximum thermometer

Mounted on Townsend Support on wooden bar in Instrument Shelter; Official Maximum Air Temperature thermometer in lowest position on Support; mercury liquid-in-glass type thermometer with bore constriction approximately 2mm above bulb; length of mercury column indicates maximum temperature of air since last reset; reset accomplished by rapid spinning of the thermometer such that centrifugal force returns mercury toward bulb, but only to present air temperature. The max and min temperatures called in to the NWS for media and forecasting use is on a 24-hour cycle from midnight to midnight.)
